As the flow of visitors through the Committee’s store dwindles to a trickle with Tioga Pass closed, it’s fun to remember back to the busy summer and all the friends who came to see us. Last August we had a real treat: poet Gary Snyder stopped in to say hello!

Gary had given a talk at the Parsons Memorial Lodge Summer Series in Tuolumne Meadows the day before. Before heading home to the Bay Area he came by our bookstore to pick up some reading material, and asked if he could greet the staff. We were all pretty excited to meet this literary giant, who has written about Mono Lake and the Sierra.

That was an awesome day, the day I sold Gary Snyder books about the Bristlecone Pine Forest!
