The Mono Basin Bird Chautauqua brings birders together to enhance appreciation and understanding of the Mono Basin’s diverse and abundant bird life and to educate the public about this area’s value to birds and people. The Chautauqua offers over 90 field trips, workshops, and presentations with renowned bird guides, naturalists, and artists. Add live music and delicious food, and you’ve got yourself a fantastic long weekend in nature with friends!
The Mono Basin Bird Chautauqua started in 2002. We are excited for the 23rd annual festival this year! From long-time birders to nature-lovers curious to learn something new, this event has something for everyone.
Check-in
Before going on your first trip, you will need to check-in at the registration table. This is also where you will pick up your T-shirts and make any registration changes, if desired. Here are the locations and times you can find us:
- Thursday, June 18 – We will be located at the Mono Lake Committee from 12pm-7pm
- Friday, June 19 and Saturday, June 20 – We will be located at the Mono Lake Indian and Lee Vining Community Center from 6am-8pm
- Sunday, June 21 – We will be located at the Mono Lake Indian and Lee Vining Community Center from 6am-9am

Partner organizations donate staff time to lead trips and offer financial and logistical support to the festival. Community Collaborators
Come support our Community Collaborators during the Chautauqua! The Lee Vining Women’s League, Mono Basin Historical Society, Lee Vining Fire Department, and Lee Vining High School will be serving meals throughout the event as fundraisers for their organizations. This is a great opportunity to enjoy some delicious food while supporting the local community.
