New Green LADWP Commissioner appointed

December 15th, 2008 by Geoff, Executive Director

Jonathan Parfrey was appointed as one of five Los Angeles Department of Water and Power Commissioners on Friday–and he’s a committed environmental advocate.

This is good news for Mono Lake. Jonathan is a strong environmental advocate who understands the critical linkage between water conservation, water recycling, and the City’s environmental responsibility to the lake. He also understands what needs to be accomplished to transform DWP into the a green utility. As a matter of fact he’s been immersed in both water and power issues for a long time as the director of Green L.A., a coalition of environmental groups (including our own Mono Lake Committee) that is working to make Los Angeles into a green city.

The appointment is a strong signal that Mayor Villaraigosa, who appointed Parfrey, plans to keep DWP’s green transformation moving quickly. You can read the Mayor’s press release here.
