Join us in the Mono Lake Committee gallery tomorrow, Saturday, July 18 from 3:00–5:00 pm for an artist reception for pastel painter Ane Carla Rovetta! Ane Carla’s show, “Impressions from the silent sage … Great Basin paintings,” is now on display in the Mono Lake Committee gallery, and has garnered rave reviews for several months.

Ane Carla Rovetta’s formal training was as a zoologist. Like the artisans of the European Renaissance, she is committed to the practice of art and science as kindred disciplines. Ane Carla has spent most of her adult life unifying the two in paintings, handmade art materials, and lively public performances across the United States.

Ane Carla’s skills as a storyteller are renowned. Her presentations are more than lively portraits of our Western animals. A fascination with “the essence of things” shines through everything she does. Whether drawing an animal protagonist after a story, or describing how she ground up soil to create the pastel she is using, Ane Carla’s unique delivery keeps her audience spellbound.

An illustrator since 1978, Ane Carla has produced the artwork in six full books, and countless scientific and educational periodicals. She has had one woman shows at Coyote Point Museum, the Randal Museum, Golden Gate National Recreation Area, Point Reyes National Seashore, Hayward Shoreline Interpretive Center, Marin County Libraries, the Mono Basin Bird Chautauqua, and has been in group shows at The California Academy of Sciences, the San Francisco Bay Model, the Environmental Action Committee of West Marin, Sonoma County Arts Council, Marin Agricultural Land Trust, and the Bolinas Museum.

Ane Carla lives in Sonoma County, where her studio is a funky chicken coop, just outside of all city limits.
