The atmospheric river keeps on giving! For nearly a week now, Mono Lake and the Eastern Sierra have been receiving heavy snow and rain, which is great news for these drought-parched areas. But it does bring complications for people living and traveling here.

Highway 395 is closed today from Mammoth Lakes to Bridgeport due to blizzard conditions, which are predicted to last until mid-morning tomorrow. Residents with ID may proceed and are subject to chain controls, but the National Weather Service recommends staying at home and avoiding all travel. A winter storm warning is in effect from 10:00am tomorrow until 4:00pm Thursday.

The Mono Lake Committee employees who live in Lee Vining have the Mono Lake Committee Information Center & Bookstore open and the office functioning, while employees who live elsewhere in the county are staying home. You can call us for the latest updates at (760) 647-6595, but please be patient if we can’t get to the phone with the skeleton crew at the office today.

Stay safe and warm at home if you’re in the Eastern Sierra!

Nice photo of the Information Center is snow- when I was last there in July, much different! Can you provide some snap shots about town for all us non snow people?
    Thanks, Richard W.

Hi Richard, we are still digging ourselves out, but I’ll try to get some photos posted in the next few days!
