Sunrise light on a grove of tufa towers emerging from the water of Mono Lake with soft green and dusty-red wild grasses in the foreground, Canada geese in the shallow water with reflections of the rocky towers, and desert hills in the distance.

Mono Lake Top Ten from 2008 … #9

9. Mono Lake travels across the country with the American Museum of Natural History’s exhibit: H20 = Life.

This great exhibit, focused on many facets water, used Mono Lake as an example of a place where cooperative solutions can balance the needs of the environment with the needs of people. Complete with very realistic fake tufa towers and California Gulls gliding overhead, the exhibit started off in New York City and then journeyed to San Diego on its national tour.

For getting the word out about the Mono Lake story, water conservation, and cooperative solutions to save the places that we love, we award H20 = Life as number nine in the Mono Lake Top Ten from 2008.

You can see the Natural History Museum’s web information on the exhibit here (look for Mono Lake in the “regeneration” section).
