The Mono Lake Committee is delving into the Final Subsequent Environmental Impact Report (FSEIR) for the Tioga Inn project (released just last Friday night) to understand the changes made from the draft document that was released last summer. While some changes have been made to the project thanks to public comments, five original significant unavoidable impacts remain, including adverse impacts to the scenic resources of the Mono Basin.
Last night about 45 community members attended the Mono County Planning Department’s public workshop about the project, which provided an opportunity for people to hear more about the project as described in the FSEIR and ask clarifying questions. The project proponent, project consultant, and Mono County planning and legal staff were on hand to provide information to a crowd that asked thoughtful questions and expressed concerns with the project.
The community’s concerns are significant, and there are two key opportunities to express those concerns to decision makers:
- Monday, March 23, 2020: Mono County Planning Commission meeting at the Lee Vining Community Center (time TBD)
- Tuesday, April 21, 2020: Mono County Board of Supervisors meeting (time and location TBD)
Communicating concerns to the Mono County Planning Commissioners and the Mono County Board of Supervisors will be essential to the future of the Lee Vining community and scenic values of the Mono Basin.
