Three thousand, one hundred sixty-five feet of elevation gain is what you’d experience if you participated in the 32nd annual Tioga Pass Run. On Sunday, September 9, 113 runners and walkers ascended all 3,165 feet in a grueling but scenic 12.4 miles.
The annual race begins in front of the Mono Lake Committee Information Center & Bookstore at an altitude of
6,781 feet and ends at the Yosemite National Park entrance at an impressive elevation of 9,945 feet. This year, despite high winds along the road, everyone persevered to complete the race within 4:32:27. Coming in at first place was Rock Creek resident Eric Lynch with a great finish time of 1:33:24. All of the top ten finishers completed the race in less than two hours!
Many thanks to all the volunteers who helped during the event; the generous sponsors who provided snacks, gear, and raffle prizes; and to law enforcement and emergency services who were on call during the event. A special round of applause goes to Race Director Alana Levin, who has put in hours of dedication organizing the Tioga Pass Run. This is Alana’s last year as Race Director, and she will definitely be missed.
