Robert Marks is Professor Emeritus of History and Environmental Studies at Whittier College in California. He is also a resident of the Mono Basin. The combination of his academic career and love for Mono Lake has led to his most recent book, Deep Time in the Mono Lake Basin.

This book takes its readers on a dive into the last 10,000 years of this region, exploring the combination of natural forces and human influences across the centuries. Robert explores the history of the Mono Lake Kootzaduka’a, the first people of the basin, and how their story collides with the arrival of white settlers. This story then leads into the development of water diversions out of the Mono Basin, and the response from a group of people who changed the fate of Mono Lake.

The Mono Lake Committee is hosting an event for Robert to discuss Deep Time in the Mono Lake Basin. Come by the Mono Lake Committee Information Center & Bookstore on Thursday, July 16 at 4:00pm for a presentation about the book, as well as a book signing! This event is free to the public with snacks and refreshments available.
