The Mono Basin community will come together this Saturday, June 13 and Sunday, June 14 to honor the memory of longtime volunteer Janet “JB” Barth, whose dedication to protecting and restoring the Mono Basin left a lasting mark on the landscape and the people who worked alongside her.
JB devoted countless hours to removing invasive weeds, restoring native habitat, and caring for the places she loved. Following her tragic passing earlier this year, partner agencies and volunteers have organized a special memorial pull in her honor.
Saturday, June 13
- Meet at 8:30am at the South Tufa parking area
- Weed pull: 9:00am–12:00pm
- Memorial ceremony to follow
Sunday, June 14
- Meet at 8:30am at Mono Lake County Park to carpool to Black Point
- Weed pull: 9:00am–12:00pm
- Drinks and snacks provided
The work will continue throughout the summer with weekly weed-pulling outings every Tuesday morning from June 16 through July 21. Volunteers should meet at 8:30am at the Mono Basin Scenic Area Visitor Center in Lee Vining.
Gloves and tools will be available. Participants should bring water, a hat, sunscreen, sun-protective clothing, and a personal lunch.
Whether you knew JB personally or simply want to help continue the restoration work she cared about so deeply, we invite you to join us for a weekend of stewardship, remembrance, and community in the Mono Basin.
Please RSVP if you can make it by sending me a quick email. Hope to see you this weekend.
