This year we increased pressure on the State Water Board to hold its long-promised hearing to modify the Los Angeles Department of Water & Power’s diversions to finally allow Mono Lake to rise to the mandated healthy level. While state level action takes its course, we have made significant strides in raising Mono Lake awareness in Los Angeles.
Together with our community partners, we advocated before the LA City Council and the DWP Board of Commissioners for a landmark recycled water project expansion that would allow DWP to meet Los Angeles’ needs while pausing Mono Lake diversions—a common-sense solution that is gaining traction with leadership in LA.
In all these efforts we have been supported by people like you writing letters, showing up to meetings, contacting elected officials, commenting in the public record, and more. Collectively these actions make a real difference.
