Today PBS Nature featured Mono Lake as part of their Untold Earth video series, which explores our planet’s strangest, most unique natural wonders. Mono Lake certainly fits that description!
The nine-minute segment was filmed this summer, showing flocking phalaropes, remnants of the winter’s big snowpack left on the mountains, and vibrant green vegetation around Mono Lake.
The lake’s ecology and political history are covered in interviews with Ryan Carle, phalarope researcher with Oikonos Ecosystem Knowledge; Catherine Jones, State Park Interpreter, Mono Lake Tufa State Natural Reserve; and Geoff McQuilkin, Executive Director of the Mono Lake Committee.
