Video: State park closure documentary

Check out the trailer for The First 70, a new documentary showcasing the 70 California state parks marked for closure.

Last May, California announced plans to close 70 of their 278 parks, including Mono Lake, a devastating move that is intended to save the state a mere $22 million per year. The closure list includes thousands of acres of park land and 50 percent of the state’s historic parks. The First 70 is a short film about Californians banding together to enact change and develop solutions in the face of a glaring bureaucratic oversight. The film is scheduled to premiere in March of next year. That’s four months before the official park closure date of July 2012, and will be a great showpiece for the issue.
