Summer jobs at Mono Lake

Are you interested in exploring a career in conservation? Curious about what it is like to work for a grassroots environmental non-profit fighting for water for Mono Lake and the Mono Basin?

We are happy to announce that the application form for the 2026 seasonal job positions will be available on Friday, December 19, 2025. Positions include Mono Lake Interns, a Birding Intern, and Information Center & Bookstore Assistants. For more information about each position please refer to the position descriptions that are available online now.

A typical day at the Mono Lake Committee could look like leading a canoe tour on Mono Lake through tufa towers or leading morning bird tours somewhere in the Mono Basin to connect visitors with local and migratory birds. Other days would consist of helping staff the Information Center & Bookstore by assisting in trip planning, sharing the story of Mono Lake, connecting with one of our 16,000 members, and selling merchandise to support the work done at the Mono Lake Committee. Any project you are asked to complete on any given day relates directly to our mission of protecting Mono Lake, restoring its tributary streams, educating the public about water resources, and supporting scientific research in the outdoor laboratory that is the Mono Basin.

We provide comprehensive training on Mono Basin ecology, California water policy, environmental interpretation, retail operations, canoe safety, and more to develop a thorough understanding of the Mono Basin and the Mono Lake Committee to be able to fulfill job duties. This is a cohort-based internship program, meaning interns begin and progress through the experience together as a group.

Other benefits include:

  • First Aid and CPR certification training.
  • Paid time off for observed holidays that occur during time of employment.
  • Mileage is paid for all job-related travel from place of work in personal vehicle.
  • Affordable shared housing within walking distance of the office in Lee Vining.
  • Employee discount on merchandise in the Information Center & Bookstore.
