Water & Wood: New Mono Lake gallery show

As seasons change, so too, does the art in the Mono Lake Theater & Gallery. The Mono Lake Committee is happy to host “Water & Wood” featuring both Nancy Overholtz’s watercolor pieces, and Ron Overholtz’s woodturnings from February 1 through July 31, 2013.

Nancy and Ron are Bishop, California locals that we are fortunate to see on a regular basis here in the Mono Basin. Ron’s woodturnings and Nancy’s watercolor prints and cards have been staples of the Information Center & Bookstore’s inventory for years. Ron and Nancy generally bring their art north from Bishop in person, stopping to bird along the way.

Nancy’s show is mostly original watercolors, with a few framed prints in the mix. With her naturalist’s eye, the fauna look as if they may fly right off the paper.

Not only did Ron bring a few larger aspen woodturnings, but the show also features pieces of Norfolk Island pine, maple, Tasmanian eucalyptus, and buckeye, to name a few. Just holding one of his shockingly light, perfectly polished buckeye turnings may be enough to fall in love with the piece—I have.

Nancy and Ron’s one-of-a-kind pieces may not stick around long, so make your way to the Mono Lake Theater & Gallery in the Information Center & Bookstore on your next visit to Mono Lake, and take home your own piece of the Eastern Sierra.
