The US Environmental Protection Agency and the US Botanic Garden produced this nine-minute online video, “Reduce Runoff: Slow It Down, Spread It Out, Soak It In,” that highlights green techniques such as rain gardens, green roofs and rain barrels to help manage stormwater runoff.
Watch the video below or follow this link for more information: Reduce Runoff: Slow It Down, Spread It Out, Soak It In.
Techniques shown in the video can help recharge groundwater in Los Angeles, which reduces the need for imported water from places like the Mono Basin. These techniques also reduce stormwater runoff, which can reduce flooding, and reduce pollution of rivers, beaches, and the ocean. In the Mono Basin, use of these techniques in town can reduce pollution of the creeks and protect the Lee Vining Creek Trail from washing out during thunderstorms–and slow down the erosion of the hillside below Lee Vining.
