SUBJECT: [Take immediate action to protect Mono Lake]
FROM: [Your Name]
[Your City, State]
Dear California State Water Resources Control Board,
[Your optional personal message goes here.]
I am deeply concerned about the dangerously low water level at Mono Lake putting wildlife and ecosystem health at risk. I support the nature-based solution proposed by the Mono Lake Committee.
I urge the State Water Board to suspend water diversions by the Los Angeles Department of Water & Power (LADWP) until the lake level rises enough to avert the current ecological crises and to schedule a hearing quickly to implement long-term stream diversion changes that will ensure Mono Lake rises to the healthy, sustainable level mandated by the State Water Board decades ago.
The State Water Board has a responsibility to restore Mono Lake, as set forth in your 1994 Mono Lake Decision. LADWP’s blaming of drought for the low lake level ignores the much larger impact of its own water diversions, which robbed the lake of half its volume.
[The ecological crisis at Mono Lake can be remedied with swift and decisive State Water Board action. As someone who treasures Mono Lake, I urge you to deliver the protections your Board has long promised for Mono Lake, birds, wildlife, the local community, and future generations.]
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
[Your Name]
