Mono Lake Top Ten from 2008 … #7

7. The Mono Lake Trail and David Gaines Boardwalk project

In 2008 construction began on a new trail connecting the Forest Service Scenic Area Visitor Center in Lee Vining to Mono Lake. Highlights of the trail include an upgraded David Gaines Boardwalk, new facilities for visitors at Old Marina, and an American Disabilities Act approved accessible trail for viewing Mono Lake.

While the trail is not yet complete, the work completed so far is well done, and both the construction of the trail and the restoration of various sites along the path has been very thoughtfully and carefully executed. And, it means that visitors hoping to walk to Mono Lake from town will have a clear, informative, and beautiful way to do so. For this, the Mono Lake Trail project gets our vote as number seven in the Mono Lake Top Ten from 2008. You can evaluate it yourself when it opens in the summer of 2009.
