Mono Lake Top Ten for 2008 … #6

6. Mono Lake Committee members paid the entire mortgage on the Committee’s Mono Basin Field Station and Annex properties

In an amazing show of support for the Committee’s dedication to scientific research in the Mono Basin, Mono Lake Committee members raised over $100,000 to pay off our mortgage, saving thousands of dollars in annual interest payments. The property itself includes an old motel as well as several adjacent properties right here in Lee Vining. We’ve identified housing for visiting researchers as a limiting factor to maintaining the high level of scientific research in this area, and the Mono Basin Field Station is our answer. The research conducted from the Field Station is crucial for understanding the Mono Basin–and for developing sound policies for protection and restoration. Plus the property additionally provides much needed space for Committee staff and program operations.

For this, we give paying off of Field Station and Annex mortgage number six in the Mono Lake Top Ten for 2008.
